Earth in space 2

Today We learnt about the way that the earth orbits the Sun and takes 365 days and 6 hours to complete its orbit. We call this a year.

The six hours are added together every fout years and we have an extra day at the end of February - we call these years"leap years".

We now know that the Earth rotates around its axis which is an imaginary line throug the centre of the planet from the North Pole to the South Pole.

Because the Earth rotates on its axis some parts are facing the Sun and after a while the Earth rotates and those places face away from the Sun.

Parts that face the sun are experiencing daytime and parts that are facing away from the sun are experiencing nigh time.

It takes the Earth 24 hours to complete one rotation. We call this a day.
