Introduction to comprehension

Objective : To introduce the concept of formal comprehension as an exercise in which students are presented with a text and required to retrieve information, infer or use deduction in order to answer a series of questions. Explanations and recommendations about techniques and to attempt to complete an exercise by modelling the process prior to attempting the exercise as individuals.

Read the text aloud to the class - repeated and worked through vocaulary

Considered a number of formal comprehension questions verbally

• Rephrased response in the form of a sentence

Recapped all questions and then allowed students to make their own attempt at completion of the exercise.
